Chair

Jenny Monson

Jenny has been on the board of BHCI since 1989 and has been an active contributor to end of life care since she completed her Certificate in Palliative Care Studies. She has been involved during that time in the training of the Hospice volunteers and has also conducted training for Health professionals and facilitated workshops and seminars for community members.

Coming from a Counselling background, Jenny has specialised in work with the dying and in grief, loss and bereavement. She has worked as director of South West Counselling and has had her own counselling practice. Jenny has a real commitment to the principle of compassionate palliative care and of the inclusion of volunteers in clinical care at the end of life as it ensures that those receiving care experience a feeling of community inclusion.

Vice Chair

Tim Baker

Tim is a recently retired educator, who grew up in Busselton. He spent his career as a teacher and principal across WA, in places including the Central Desert (Warakurna), Pilbara, Southwest and most recently, Esperance.

Tim returned to Busselton with his family in 2000, and served as principal at Busselton and Geographe Primary Schools. He loves the ocean and is a keen (but slow) swimmer, fisherman and boater. Having now retired, he is looking to contribute more to the community of Busselton which served him so well in his childhood, and working life.

He has a wife Karen, also a retired teacher, three adult sons and four grandsons (so far).

Secretary

Rose Gibbons

Rose Gibbons has recently retired, and brings her extensive experience as a Medical Practice Manager and Executive Assistant to the position of Board Secretary.

Treasurer

Sylvia Winkler

Sylvia Winkler has extensive experience in finance, governance, and organisational leadership. Having spent much of her career supporting communities and businesses across the Pilbara, she is passionate about building resilient organisations that make a meaningful difference. Sylvia currently serves as Treasurer of Busselton Hospice Care and brings a practical, people-focused approach to her work. She lives with her partner and two boys in the red dirt of the Pilbara and is committed to strengthening regional communities through compassionate leadership and service.

Committee Member

Paul Carter

Paul Carter is a Busselton local with a long-standing commitment to community service, regional development and good governance.

Paul served as a City of Busselton Councillor from 2015 to 2023, including two years as Deputy Mayor.  During this time, he contributed to a range of Council committees and initiatives spanning finance, audit and risk, airport development, economic development and regional planning.

His broader community and professional service includes serving on the Busselton Water Board from 2010 to 2017, where he was Deputy Chair and chaired the Audit Committee, as well as involvement with the Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Geographe Primary School Board.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Business (Agriculture).

His career has included roles with BankWest, the WA Farmers Federation and the Dairy Industry Authority of WA, as well as owning and operating a local business.

Throughout his career, Paul has valued the importance of strong community connections, responsible governance and working collaboratively to support the region and its people.

Nik Booker

I am proud to have lived in the Southwest for seventeen years and have called Busselton home for the last twelve. There really is no better place to live and work. My wife and I have six adult children and seven grandchildren ranging in age from one to eleven.

I have worked in the public sector since 1987 and have been a Registered Nurse for over thirty years. Currently, I work in the public health system in a regional role helping to care for our older adult population. 

As well as volunteering on the Board for Busselton Hospice Care Inc. I volunteer at the Weld Theatre where you will often see me propping up the bar (also serving drinks). In my spare time I enjoy gardening, pickleball and occasionally dusting off my 2007 Suzuki Boulevard motorbike for a slow ride around the South West.
