CARER EDUCATION
Empowering Carers
At the end of their life, many people express the wish to die at home. This presents their partner, family members and friends – their care network – with an opportunity to spend precious time together, sharing old memories and creating new ones.
How we can help
As rewarding as this experience can be, it is also equally demanding and, at times, exhausting. It is important people have some preparation for the practical, physical and emotional demands of caring for a dying person at home. Our Carer Education program offers three, one-hour webinars that provide the fundamental knowledge and practical skills of caring for someone at home who is very sick and may possibly die. It also provides strategies for dealing with common end of life symptoms, medications, communicating with health professionals whilst paying close attention to self-care and wellbeing.
My sisters and I wanted to care for mum so she could die at home, as was her wish. We had no idea what was involved. Without this training we wouldn’t have had the confidence to give mum the care she needed or to be prepared for the reality of what we’d signed up to.
